Move-In steps, resources and tips to make the move-in process go smoothly

Greetings Runners!

There are three steps to remember in order to get where you need to be during Move-In Week and make the process go smoothly.

Step #1: Check In

You will need to check in at Brackenridge Ave Lot 5 (BK5), which is also where you will be picking up your temporary key. During this period, you will be picking up your temporary card from us and checking in with our staff. Once that is completed you will need to get in your vehicle as a passenger with your belongings and head to the unloading area. If there is a vehicle that does not need to be unloaded, please head straight to the parking location.

Step #2: Unloading

The second stop is unloading. The parking lot directly in front of the resident halls are ONLY serving as unloading zones. During the week we will be opening certain parking lots for residents but until then please park in the designated parking lots rather than the Resident Lots to allow your fellow residents to have a great move-in experience as well.

Step #3: Parking

Once your car has been unloaded you will need to follow the directional signs to the parking area for move-in. This will be located in Brackenridge Lot 1. In the parking area, we will be shuttling students and their families to and from the residence hall and parking lot until 4:30 p.m. each day.

If you follow these three main instructions, move-in should be a relatively “cool” experience. At least as cool as you can get in the August San Antonio heat!

Tips and tricks

Our top 5 tips for a smooth move in!

  1. Bring your photo ID with you to the check-in table (only residents can check in, sorry parents!)
  2. Have your helper drive the resident’s vehicle so the resident can stay with their belongings in the unloading zone while the helper relocates the car to the parking areas. (Otherwise the resident’s items will remain behind with a staff/volunteer while the resident relocates the car).
  3. Bring your own dolly/cart/wagon to assist with moving your items. We have housing carts to offer, but they are first come first served and may not be available when you get to campus.
  4. Dress comfortably. We will all be hot and sweaty together, there is no one to impress by dressing nicely. It is hot in San Antonio and move-in is predominantly outside!
  5. Pack your patience! We know this is a stressful time for residents and their families. We do our best to make this process as smooth as possible. Make sure to follow our signs and routes so that this is a seamless transition for everyone!

We are so excited to see you soon!

Note: Residents who have been previously approved for a move in outside of your property's designated move in date, you should have received separate instructions.
